There are those who say we live in Hicksville. There are even those who say we’re hicks. I had my Hickman catheter inserted today. The procedure was very quick and easy. They gave me a mellow drug that put me in a state of conscious sedation. I was drowsing comfortably but still could hear everything going on around me. I could feel nothing due to a liberal local dose of lidocaine. I just lay there peacefully with my eyes closed, not a care in the world. The only hard part was that they made me wake up in recovery instead of letting me have the nice long nap I craved after having to get up at 5 a.m. today.

  1. Don’t you hate it when they wake you up? After my hysterectomy I really wanted to sleep. I didn’t want to have to go home to a two-year-old and three-month-old. I just wanted to sleep.

  2. Good luck with starting the chemo tomorrow, you’ll be so happy to have that catheter when they want all those blood samples.
    Wishing you a boring time!

    Good luck today, Karen!
Glad the catheter insert went as well as could be expected!
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

  4. It looks like you are being wired into a “real personal computer”. 🙂
